Al-Azhar Park stands as a sparkling green jewel in the heart of Greater Cairo, and truly one of the most magnificent and largest gardens worldwide. This enchanting oasis spans 80 acres, transformed from what was once neglected land for thousands of years into a masterpiece through ambitious vision and tremendous effort.

The dream of converting this space into a park began in 1984. After seven years of diligent work and dedication, the park opened its gates to visitors in 2005. With a cost exceeding 100 million Egyptian pounds, fully borne by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Al-Azhar Park stands as a testament to the power of transformation and creativity.

The park's breathtaking beauty has garnered global recognition; it was listed among the top sixty public spaces in the world by the "Project for Public Spaces." These achievements were made possible thanks to the Historic Cities Support Programme of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, part of the Aga Khan Development Network.

Costing over 30 million dollars in total, this park was presented as a precious gift to Cairo from Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, a descendant of the Fatimid Caliphs who founded Cairo, ensuring it remains a beacon of beauty, history, and culture.
